Ever since sustainability started growing in importance in the corporate and national level, industries like engineering, manufacturing and technology have been ones that have been at the forefront of it. This is primarily because one of the most important and tangible measures of sustainability is judicious use of resources.
One of the most obvious way by which this can be done is by reduction of losses which in turn is a direct function of efficiency of manufacturing and engineering operations. Ask any engineer, and he will tell you that it is practically impossible to have a manufacturing process or a machine which operates at 100% efficiency. But it is also a widely known and accepted fact that the efficiency level that our processes and factories operate at are nowhere near the optimal level or at a level which can be termed sustainable by any stretch of imagination.
